Operation Blood Hunt
A war horror film about werewolves and a cursed island.
**Operation Blood Hunt** is a 2024 Thai-American war action horror film. Brandon Slagle wrote the screenplay and directed. The cast includes Quinton Jackson, Louis Mandylor, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, and Sonia Couling.
**Plot**
In 1944, during World War II, all communication from several U.S. Marine outposts on a South Pacific island goes dead. No survivors are found. The military recruits Reverend Alexander Conte, an occult expert who drinks heavily and carries a troubled past. Though he has lost his faith, he still knows scripture and ancient curses.
Conte is dropped onto the jungle island with a team of misfits: Richter, a hardened mercenary; Elkins, a man obsessed with flamethrowers; Ramirez, a religious zealot who carries a bloodstained machete; Dr. Mallory, a frail but brilliant scholar of the occult; and Corporal Dax, the sole survivor of an earlier unit, now barely sane and muttering about "howling gods with yellow eyes."
The island is eerily silent—no birds, no insects. The team finds a Marine outpost abandoned and covered in blood. Severed limbs hang from ropes. One soldier sees a Marine crucified upside down, his stomach hollowed out, his entrails arranged in a spiral on the floor. The word "WEREWOLVES" is scratched into a wall.
That night, the team sets up camp with silver shrapnel traps and UV flares. Elkins is dragged from his foxhole and killed; only his torso and head remain. The attackers are huge, bipedal, fur-covered creatures with intelligent eyes. Ramirez kills one with his machete but is quickly torn apart by two more.
Conte leads the survivors deeper into the jungle, where they meet Heirani, a woman with dark eyes. She explains that her ancestors made a pact with moon spirits during World War I, transforming warriors into guardians. The curse twisted them, and now they hunt, especially under the full moon.
The team then discovers the island is cursed, and the werewolves are not the only threat. Conte learns that the alpha werewolf is his own father, thought dead long ago. The mission was never a rescue—the military wanted a distraction to cover their true objective, but the island's supernatural horrors have other plans.

Lore & Background
Set in 1944 during World War II, the film follows Reverend Alexander Conte, a whiskey-drinking occult expert with a haunted past, who is recruited by the military to investigate the silence from U.S. Marine outposts in the South Pacific. Conte leads a handpicked team of misfits—including a grizzled mercenary, a flamethrower-wielding maniac, a Catholic zealot, an occult historian, and a half-crazed survivor—onto a jungle island where they encounter bipedal, fur-covered creatures that hunt and kill with intelligence. The team discovers the island's cursed history, involving a pact with moon spirits made during World War I, and learns that the alpha werewolf is Conte's own father, thought long dead. The island itself is a cursed place, and the werewolves are its guardians, twisted by an ancient pact.
Reader's Guide
Operation Blood Hunt attempts to blend war, action, and horror genres with a werewolf mythology rooted in a cursed island pact. The film relies on practical effects for its creatures, which critics noted as its strongest feature, but overall reception was mixed. Neil Soans of The Times of India gave it a 2.0 rating, stating that while it tries to bring a fresh twist to the werewolf genre, it stumbles in execution. The film was shot in Bangkok, Thailand, wrapped in December 2022, and released direct-to-video in North America on October 4, 2024, followed by streaming on LionsgatePlay and Tubi. Its significance lies in its attempt to merge historical war settings with supernatural horror, though it did not achieve critical acclaim.
