P-51 Dragon Fighter

P-51 Dragon Fighter, a 2014 science fiction fantasy action film, was written and directed by Mark Atkins. Its cast includes Scott Martin, Stephanie Beran, Ross Brooks, Thom Rachford, Clint Glenn Hummel, Harwood Gordon, Stephen Suitts, Trey McCurley, Riley Litman, Anthony Dupray, Johnny Kostrey, Paul Whetstone, Michael Hampton, Stephen Blackehart, and Pernille Trojgaard.

The plot begins before World War II, when a Nazi archaeological team discovers a dragon’s egg and hatches it, beginning a breeding program. The dragons reproduce parthenogenically, allowing a single dragon and its female offspring to multiply rapidly. They are controlled by Vril, Aryan witch women who share a psychic link with the creatures and can command them. In 1942, Nazi cryptozoologist Dr. Heinrich Gudrun (Ozman Sirgood) arrives with his brood as part of a program code-named “Skyward.” The adult dragons and their Vril handlers are meant to reclaim air superiority for the Afrika Korps, commanded by Field Marshal Erwin Rommel (Robert Pike Daniel).

To counter this threat, an American general assembles a squadron of the best available Allied fighter pilots, led by Lieutenant John Robbins (Scott Martin)—the sole survivor of the first squadron to engage the dragons. General Ward (Thom Rachford) creates the “Ghost Squadron,” a unit that officially does not exist. Flying North American P-51 Mustangs, the squadron lures the dragons into a trap of flak guns. The guns down two dragons, and one pilot kills another before running out of fuel and being killed himself. Robbins and his friends go to the crash site to investigate but are captured by German soldiers and brought to Rommel.

Rommel, who distrusts Gudrun’s intentions and doubts the Vril’s control over the dragons, tells Robbins that the parthenogenic females occasionally lay an egg that hatches a male dragon. These rare males are incredibly powerful, and legends claim they herald the end of the world—meaning the fall of a civilization. Rommel notes that one male dragon destroyed the Carthaginian Empire, and another hastened the Roman Empire’s decline. He believes Gudrun has such an egg hidden in an incubator complex beneath a mountain. Rommel gives Robbins the incubator’s location and says an “inside man” will open an air vent leading directly into it.
