Lore & Background
The Doomtrooper proves nearly indestructible, shrugging off bullets and grenades, and possesses self-regenerative powers. It kills most of a French Resistance hideout and survives a point-blank tank round. The Allied team eventually traps the Doomtrooper in an ammunition bunker and detonates it, but the creature survives and returns to the Citadel. In the final confrontation, Captain Malloy kills the Doomtrooper by jamming two electrical cables under its helmet after it is weakened by a power short circuit. Malloy, Mariette, and Digger escape as the castle crumbles.
Reader's Guide
S.S. Doomtrooper is a low-budget television film that exemplifies the Sci Fi Channel's early-2000s trend of producing original monster movies with World War II themes. Its significance lies primarily in its campy execution and the inclusion of an homage to Corin Nemec's earlier comedic role. The film's creature, a CGI supersoldier with electrical powers and an arm-mounted cannon, represents a typical mad-scientist creation that turns on its masters. The plot follows a standard commando-team formula, with the monster serving as the primary antagonist. The film's legacy is minor, remembered mainly by fans of B-movie science fiction and those interested in Corin Nemec's filmography. It did not spawn sequels or significant cultural impact, remaining a niche entry in the Sci Fi Channel's original movie library.
